6.270 (Autonomous Robot Design Competition) is a class offered during IAP in which students design robots that compete in a game with no human intervention or control.

The students work in two- or three-person teams, and each team is given the same materials and three weeks to build their robot. Though the class utilizes concepts taught in other Course 6 classes, there are no formal prerequisites for 6.270 — students have historically been able to acquire all the knowledge they need by trial-and-error and working with their teammates.

The game the robots play changes every year, with recent titles including Snakes on a Plane and Montezuma's Revenge.
