EdX is a non-profit online initiative created by founding partners Harvard and MIT. It offers interactive online classes and massive online open courses (MOOCs) from the world’s best universities, colleges, and organizations who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning. MITx, HarvardX, BerkeleyX, and many other universities are among the participating communities.

EdX offers online courses that include opportunities for professor-to-student and student-to-student interactivity, individual assessment of a student's work and, for students who demonstrate their mastery of subjects, a certificate of achievement or other acknowledgment.
