The MIT Cheerleading Club is a co-ed cheerleading squad that cheers for events around MIT and performs stunting and dance routines. The squad welcomes new members, and previous cheerleading experience is not necessary to join the squad.
The club recruits new members during the CPW Athletics Gateway and during the Orientation Athletics Gateway and Activities Midway. Try-outs are held annually during Orientation, and auditioners are generally taught a dance routine and a cheer in addition to basic stunting techniques. The intent of the try-out is for prospective members to determine for themselves whether they would be interested in joining the squad.
The squad cheers for events around MIT, including football and mens' basketball home games, in addition to other events as requested by teams or by members of the MIT administration. Additionally, the squad performs at other MIT events, such as Kappa Sigma's annual Lip Sync competition, and sometimes participates in cheerleading competitions around the Boston area.
Practice is held three times per week, two hours per practice, at Dupont Gymnasium.
